Introduction
The Thames Valley Community Risk Register has been published by the Thames Valley Local Resilience Forum, in accordance with the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. Details on the regulations and guidance contained in the Act can be found at www.ukresilience.gov.uk.
The purpose of the Register is to reassure the communities of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes that potential hazards have been assessed, and that effective preparation arrangements and response plans exist.
The risks described in the Register are general hazards which may never affect us. By identifying all potential hazards and their consequences, plans can be made and any incidents that may occur can be dealt with more effectively.
This public document displays the risk assessments for non-malicious events rather than for those caused deliberately (such as the threat of terrorism). These threats are being considered but remain confidential to prevent their potential use by adversaries. The Home Office holds primary reponsibility for Counter-Terrorism within the UK. The Security Service (MI5) website has detailed information on the current threats to national security and expert security advice for businesses, organisations and anyone with responsibility for the safety of others.
The National Risk Register, published by the Government, sets out the assessment of the likelihood and potential impact of a range of different risks that may directly affect the UK. It is designed to increase awareness of the kinds of risks the UK faces, and encourage individuals and organisations to think about their own preparedness.
